Un corgi est-il un bon chien de troupeau ? (Histoire et objectif du Corgi)
Bien que cela ne ressorte pas clairement de leur nom et de leur représentation populaire, les corgis sont en fait classés comme chiens de berger selon l'American Kennel Club. Le Cardigan Welsh Corgi et le Pembroke Welsh Corgi ont tous deux développé leur réputation d'animaux de troupeau dans le premier chapitre de leurs histoires. Ils conservent aujourd’hui leur instinct de berger , même s’il n’est utilisé que pour bousculer les jeunes enfants ou pour contrôler les nobles anglais. Histoire du Corgi
Les deux races de Corgi sont appelés « cousins », même si nous ne savons pas à quel point ils sont étroitement liés. Tous deux appartiennent à la famille des Spitz et, pendant un certain temps, on a pensé qu'ils appartenaient à la même race.
Dès le 10e siècle avant JC, vous avez peut-être vu le trapu Cardigan Corgi galoper dans les landes du nord du Pays de Galles. . Personne ne sait exactement depuis combien de temps ils étaient là, mais ils ont été importés à l’origine par des tribus celtiques immigrées d’Europe centrale. On pense que les Cardigan Corgis sont issus des familles Teckel et Spitz, cette dernière fournissant également la lignée du Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Orange et plus petit que le Cardigan Corgi quiBien que le Pembroke Corgi ait envahi la partie nord du pays, le Pembroke Corgi a néanmoins été embauché pour les mêmes travaux agricoles pendant près d’un millénaire. Il semblait destiné à partager la vie agricole tranquille de son cousin pour toujours jusqu’à ce que la reine Elizabeth II en reçoive un en 1933. L’année suivante, la race Corgi a été divisée en deux types distincts, le Pembrokeshire Corgi et le Cardigan Corgi. Depuis lors, le Pembrokeshire Corgi a suscité le plus d’attention de la part des éleveurs et des expositions, tandis que le Cardigan Corgi a trotté pour rattraper son retard.
L’American Kennel Club a mis du temps à suivre l’exemple de la reine. Il a admis le Pembroke Corgi dans l’AKC en 1934, mais n’a pas reconnu le Cardigan Corgi comme une race distincte. En 2006, il a finalement tiré un trait et a officiellement annoncé qu’il existait désormais deux types différents de Corgis, le Pembroke Welsh et le Cardigan Welsh. Malheureusement, il peut être difficile de trouver un Pembroke ou un Cardigan de race pure aux États-Unis, car ils étaient considérés comme faisant partie de la même race pendant les 70 premières années de leur acceptation par l'AKC.
Les Corgis sont-ils toujours considérés comme des chiens de troupeau aujourd'hui ?
Les Corgis Cardigan et Pembroke sont toujours considérés comme des chiens de troupeau. Rassurez-vous, vous n'avez pas besoin d'entretenir un enclos à moutons dans votre jardin pour divertir votre Corgi. Même au Royaume-Uni, ce fidèle berger a surtout étéremplacé par le Border Collie, qui a des pattes plus longues pour chasser rapidement le troupeau et est considéré comme la race de chien la plus intelligente au monde.
Aujourd'hui, les deux races de Corgi participent à des compétitions d'agilité et à des expositions canines où ils excellent compte tenu de leur compétences héritées. Le Pembroke Welsh Corgi, en particulier, a retenu l'attention de la culture populaire, notamment en tant que chien britannique. Tous les corgis apprécient la compagnie de leurs humains et font généralement de bons chiens de famille, tout comme ils le faisaient lorsqu'ils se déplaçaient dans les fermes.

Tous les chiens ont besoin d'exercice, qu'ils soient considérés comme une race à faible énergie comme le bouledogue ou qu'ils contiennent des limites d'énergie comme le berger australien. Les corgis ont une quantité d’énergie relativement élevée et ont besoin d’exercice quotidien pour s’épanouir. Visez au moins 1 heure par jour, qu’il s’agisse de vous promener dans le parc à chiens ou de vous promener en laisse. Les corgis sont également particulièrement agiles dans les parcours d’obstacles, vous voudrez peut-être voir s’il y en a un dans un parc pour chiens près de chez vous. Les courses à obstacles engagent votre Corgi mentalement et physiquement. Cette race bénéficie vraiment du double exercice.
Conclusion
Bien qu'ils soient désormais plus susceptibles d'être trouvés dans le palais ou le salon plutôt que dans un pâturage , le Pembroke Welsh Corgi et le Cardigan Welsh Corgi conservent leurs titres de chiens de berger. Ils ont besoin quotidiennementfaire de l'exercice afin d'éviter de devenir colérique et déformé. Cependant, il n’est pas nécessaire de rassembler les moutons. Une excursion d'une heure au parc à chiens ou une promenade rapide dans le quartier devrait suffire à les maintenir en bonne santé physique et mentale. Tous les corgis ont besoin de l'attention de leurs parents et prospéreront grâce à vos soins. Tout au long de l'histoire, les corgis ont toujours été connus comme étant des compagnons fidèles pour une famille ou une personne seule de tous horizons.
