Dîner à Rosedown Plantation, St. Francisville, Louisiane
Bienvenue au 296ème Tablescape jeudi !
La semaine dernière, alors que je visitais des plantations à travers la Louisiane et le Mississippi, j'ai été heureux de découvrir que la photographie était autorisée dans presque toutes les maisons que nous avons visitées. Aujourd'hui, nous nous aventurons dans la magnifique salle à manger de Rosedown Plantation.
Comme vous pouvez le voir sur cette photo de Wikipédia ci-dessous, Oak Alley Plantation n'est pas la seule plantation de Louisiane avec une belle allée de chênes centenaires. Il a fallu une vraie vision et un respect du patrimoine pour planter des chênes de cette manière car, aussi lents soient-ils, la personne qui les a plantés aurait su qu'elle ne vivrait jamais assez longtemps pour voir ce magnifique spectacle. Je suis tellement heureux qu'ils les aient plantés pour que les générations futures puissent en profiter !
Rosedown était la maison de Daniel et Martha (Barrow) Turnbull et ils ont nommé leur maison Rosedown d'après une pièce de théâtre qu'ils ont vue pendant leur lune de miel. Rosedown était autrefois situé sur 3 455 acres de terrain, principalement plantés de coton. De nombreuses maisons que nous avons visitées étaient des plantations de canne à sucre, j'ai donc été surpris d'apprendre que Rosedown était une plantation de coton.
Dans la salle à manger, la table était couverte de belle porcelaine. Je n'ai pas reconnu le motif mais je partagerai une photo en gros plan vers la fin de cet article et si vous le reconnaissez, partagez le nom.
I J'ai adoré le beau vieux miroir au-dessus de la cheminée. J'aurais aimé que les salles à manger soient encore construites avec de bellesvaisselier intégré comme celui que nous voyons ici.
Connaissez-vous l'appareil que vous voyez accroché ici au-dessus de la table ? Il s’agit d’un grand éventail oscillant appelé punkah et les premiers remontent au début de 500 avant JC. Ils étaient plus communément connus sous le nom d'éventails de mouches et étaient souvent vus dans les salles à manger des maisons des plantations.
À l'époque, les fenêtres étaient toujours ouvertes pour capter la brise. Malheureusement, des insectes comme des mouches gênantes s'introduisaient. Pour éloigner les mouches de la nourriture et des convives, quelqu'un s'asseyait dans un coin et faisait fonctionner le ventilateur en tirant sur la corde.
Quand il Il faisait très chaud, un grand bol de glace pouvait être placé sur la table et le mouvement du ventilateur créait une brise fraîche. Je me demande avec quelle facilité la glace était disponible à l’époque. J'ai l'impression qu'il était utilisé plus souvent pour éloigner les insectes des convives que pour se rafraîchir. Dieu merci, il y a la climatisation ! C’est bien aujourd’hui, n’est-ce pas ? Je me demande à quoi servait ce grand bol transparent à l’intérieur du bol à soupe. Peut-être que chaque personne avait son propre bol de glace pour se rafraîchir.
Voici une autre vue de cette extrémité de la pièce depuis l'autre côté. Je ne pouvais pas toujours obtenir la vue/l'angle de la pièce que je souhaitais à cause de toutes les personnes participant à la visite. Je devais juste faire de mon mieux. Vous entendrez probablement ce gémissement de temps en temps lorsque je publie des visites des maisons que nousa visité. 🙂
Il y avait un joli buffet niché dans un coin de la pièce. Vous pouvez également voir où le ventilateur a été attaché/fonctionné sur cette photo.
Nous avons une meilleure vue de la vaisselle ici sur le buffet.

Rosedown était probablement ma préférée parmi toutes les maisons que nous avons visitées. La décoration intérieure était magnifique et les jardins et l'aménagement paysager étaient merveilleux ! J'ai hâte de partager davantage de cette magnifique maison dans les prochains articles.

S'il vous plaît, n'ajoutez pas le nom de votre message/nom de votre blog TOUT EN MAJUSCULES... cela a tendance à créer de grands espaces entre les lignes. de liens.
