Le Continental Bulldog est une nouvelle race développée en Suisse en 2005. Le Continental Bulldog est ainsi nommé car il est considéré comme l'homologue « continental » du Bulldog anglais, qui est l'une de ses races parentales. L'éleveuse suisse Imelda Angehrn a créé cette race en croisant le Bulldog anglais avec le Bulldog Leavitt.

Ils peuvent être des animaux très joueurs, ce qui en fait de merveilleux compagnons pour vos enfants. Comme pour toute race, vous devez toujours surveiller votre Bulldog Continental et vos enfants lorsqu'ils jouent ensemble, surtout si vos enfants sont jeunes. Nourriture et amp; Exigences alimentaires
La quantité exacte de nourriture que vous devez donner à votre chien dépend de son âge, de son poids et de son niveau d'activité. Cependant, de manière générale, vous devez donner à votre Bulldog Continental entre 2,5 et 3,5 tasses de croquettes de haute qualité par jour, généralement réparties en deux repas ou plus. Les Bulldogs continentaux sont moyennement faciles à dresser. Cependant, comme leurs ancêtres, ils peuvent être des animaux têtus. Vous devez être cohérent et ferme dans votre formation et commencer à enseigner les commandes simples de votre Contis dès le plus jeune âge. Si vous n'avez jamais possédé ou dressé de chien auparavant, vous voudrez peut-être envisager d'amener votre Conti chez un entraîneur professionnel.

Le pelage d'un bouledogue continental perd une quantité moyenne. Vous devez donc être prêt à brosser votre chien une à deux fois par semaine. Ces chiens ont moins de rides que les autres bouledogues, maisles rides qu'ils présentent devront être nettoyées régulièrement car votre Conti peut avoir de la nourriture ou de la saleté dans les plis de sa peau. Mâle contre femelle
Les mâles et les femelles peuvent faire de merveilleux animaux de compagnie. 1. Le bouledogue continental est une toute nouvelle race
Le bouledogue continental a été établi pour la première fois en tant que nouvelle race en 2005 lorsqu'il a été accepté au sein du Swiss Kennel Club.
2. Le bouledogue anglais a déjà été menacé d'extinction et pourrait bien y être à nouveau
Le bouledogue anglais a été élevé pour la corrida. Lorsque l’attaque des taureaux a été interdite au Royaume-Uni en 1835, les bouledogues n’ont plus rempli leur fonction et sont devenus beaucoup moins populaires. Cependant, la race a été sauvée par des amoureux des chiens qui ont vu le potentiel de l’animal comme compagnon ou même comme chien de berger. Mais au fil du temps, les éleveurs ont sélectionné certains des traits uniques du bouledogue, comme sa mâchoire saillante, qui ont malheureusement entraîné des problèmes de santé chez les bouledogues anglais modernes. Une étude, publiée en 2016, a conclu que les bouledogues anglais ne possèdent pas la diversité génétique nécessaire pour aider à surmonter les anomalies physiques qui peuvent contribuer à une vie de douleur et même mettre en danger la vie d'un chien. L'idée de croiser le Bulldog anglais avec le Bulldog Leavitt était d'obtenir un chien avec moinsproblèmes de santé.
3. Le Leavitt Bulldog, ou le vieux bouledogue anglais, n'est pas le même que les vieux bouledogues anglais du 17ème siècle
Le Leavitt Bulldog a une histoire relativement courte, puisqu'il a été créé dans les années 1970. Les ancêtres du Bulldog Leavitt comprennent le Bulldog anglais, le Bulldog américain, l'American Pit Bull Terrier et le Bullmastiff.
