Le Keeshond est un chien de race pure composé de races de chiens de type Spitz et est plus étroitement lié au Poméranien, à l'Américain. Esquimau, Husky et Samoyède. Ils sont parfois appelés Kees pour faire court, et l'orthographe plurielle est Keeshonden ; cependant, la plupart les appellent Keeshonds au sens pluriel. Keeshond Origin & Histoire
Le Keeshond est une race ancienne établie en Hollande aux 17ème et 18ème siècles. Connu sous le nom de chien de barge hollandais, on l'apercevait couramment sur les barges remontant et descendant les canaux et les rivières des Pays-Bas.
En raison des troubles politiques en Hollande au XVIIIe siècle, un Néerlandais nommé Cornelis 'Kees' de Gyselaar a dirigé le soulèvement et était connu comme le patriote néerlandais. Il était également connu pour le chien qui l'accompagnait sur les péniches, et le chien est devenu un symbole du mouvement. La race fut plus tard nommée Keeshond, « Kees » pour Gyselaar et « hond », signifiant « chien » en néerlandais.

Contrairement à la plupart des races anciennes, le Keeshond n'a généralement pas été élevé pour chasser, il s'entend donc bien avec les autres animaux de compagnie. Ils adorent aller dans les parcs à chiens et n'ont aucun problème à se mêler aux autres chiens. Ils préfèrent avoir un frère ou une sœur chien, le Keeshond est donc une évidence si vous avez un chien qui s'entend bien avec les autres chiens. Cependant, le Keeshond aura toujours besoin de socialisation pour être bien élevé, mais comme il est intelligent et désireux de plaire, il est assez facile à dresser.
Choses à savoir quand Posséder un Keeshond
Nourriture et amp; Exigences alimentaires 🦴
Le Keeshond se porte bien avec des aliments secs pour chiens de première qualité et de haute qualité qui ne contiennent pas d'ingrédients artificiels. Le premier ingrédient répertorié doit être une protéine de haute qualité, comme du poisson, du bœuf ou du poulet. Il est important de ne pas nourrir gratuitement le Keeshond car cela peut conduire à l’obésité. Ils font mieux avec 1 à 2 tasses par jour, réparties en tétées le matin et le soir.

Entraînement 🎾
Le Keeshond est intelligent et très facile à dresser avec un renforcement positif. En fait, il excelle dans les épreuves d'obéissance en plus de l'agilité, et son empressement à faire plaisir à ses humains est un plus. Le Keeshond n'aura aucune difficulté à apprendre des commandes de base comme « assis », « reste » et « viens ». Une fois que votre chiot aura maîtrisé ces commandes, vous pourrez passer à un entraînement plus avancé avec l'agilité s'il le souhaite.

Le Keeshonda un sous-poil double et épais qui nécessite un toilettage régulier. Brosser le pelage avec une brosse à épingles deux fois par semaine éliminera les poils morts et le maintiendra en bon état. Les poils autour des pieds et des coussinets devront être coupés au besoin. Vous pouvez donner un bain au Keeshond toutes les 4 à 6 semaines, ou demander à un toiletteur professionnel de le faire pour vous si vous le souhaitez.
Brossez-vous les dents plusieurs fois par semaine avec un dentifrice sans danger pour les chiens, vérifiez régulièrement les oreilles et nettoyez-les au besoin avec un nettoyant doux pour les oreilles de chien. Coupez les ongles une fois par mois ou au besoin.
Santé et conditions 🏥
Les éleveurs responsables « élimineront » certaines conditions médicales auxquelles ces chiens peuvent être sujets, ce qui signifie qu'ils élèvent uniquement des chiens qui ont été vérifiés et débarrassés de certains problèmes qui pourraient être transmis. Pour cette raison, vous ne voyez pas trop de Keeshonds avec des problèmes de santé particuliers. Cependant, vous ne pouvez pas exclure cette possibilité. Mâle contre femelle
Il n’y a pas beaucoup de différence entre les deux sexes. Les mâles sont légèrement plus gros, mais pas suffisamment pour faire une énorme différence. Le choix du sexe dépend en réalité davantage de vos préférences personnelles. Sachez que de nombreux problèmes de comportement peuvent être résolus par la simple stérilisation de votre chiot, et qu'il est plus sain pour lui à long terme de prévenir certaines maladies, comme les cancers des testicules ou de l'utérus. 1. Ils sont connus sous le nom de « Le Néerlandais souriant »
Les Keeshonden sont connus pour leurs sourires aux lèvres retroussées. Depuis que la race est originaire des Pays-Bas, le surnom de « le Néerlandais souriant » est resté et est encore utilisé aujourd'hui.
2. On dirait qu'ils portent des lunettes
Les Keeshonden sont adorables avec leur pelage moelleux et leurs sourires retroussés. Pour ajouter à leur gentillesse, la coloration et les ombres autour des yeux leur donnent l'impression qu'ils portent des lunettes, en particulier avec la ligne sombre s'étendant de chaque œil vers les oreilles inférieures.
3. Ils font d’excellents chiens de thérapie
Il n’est pas étonnant que ces chiens soient des chiens de thérapie exceptionnels, compte tenu de leur indéniable tempérament doux et de leur personnalité aimante. Ils sont connus pour être affectueux et n’ont aucun problème à apaiser les malades et les blessés.
